The inquiry process requires you seek information, make meaning of this information and present your new understanding to an audience. Effective inquiry requires an understanding and mastery of a variety of different information search skills.
At Villanova we label the various stages of the Information Search Process (ISP) as indicated in the diagram below. Each ISP stage requires you employ a set of skills. As you move through the school you will be expected to demonstrate and develop a variety of skills associated with each of these stages. After you progress through each stage it is vital you REFLECT. Ask questions like, "Am I on the right track?" "Have I understood the assignment requirements?" "Do I have enough information?" "Am I using reliable sources?" "Do I understand how to use in-text citations?" "Is my Bibliography correctly set out?" "Have I structured my response appropriately?" Be sure to ask these questions but then DO something about the answers, particularly if you realise you need help. Ask your friends, peers, seek help from you teachers and the Library staff. Do not wait too late!
Constant reflection avoids you moving off-task and helps you produce the very best response possible.
